What is ABA Therapy?

ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis.

It is a research-based therapy most commonly used to support children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ABA focuses on understanding how behavior works and using that understanding to help children learn new skills, build communication, and become more independent in daily life.

Think of ABA as a way of breaking big goals — like learning to ask for something, take turns, or follow a routing — into small, achievable steps. We celebrate every win, no matter how small, and build on each success over time.

ABA is most often recommended for children who have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but it can also benefit children with developmental delays, behavioral challenges, and other learning differences. If your child has received — or is in the process of getting — an ASD diagnosis, ABA therapy may be covered by your insurance.

Our approach to ABA

At Building Bridges, we believe therapy should be fun — filled with play, curiosity, and encouragement. We use positive reinforcement to motivate learning, meaning we focus on building up what your child can do, rather than focusing on what they can’t. Sessions are naturalistic and designed to meet your child where they are today.

Insurance & Funding

We’ll help you understand your benefits — plain and simple.
ABA therapy is a covered benefit for most children with autism.
Federal law (the Autism CARE Act and most state mandates) requires that insurance companies cover ABA therapy for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. We work with most major insurance providers and will verify your benefits at no cost to you before services begin.

We accept most major insurance plans
Medicaid | NC Medicaid | Blue Cross Blue Shield | Aetna | United Healthcare | Cigna | Tri-care | Humana and more.

If you are not sure that your plan is accepted, contact us!
We’ll be more than happy to look into it for you. We never want insurance to be the barrier to getting your child the support they need.
